In this issue of Diabetic Hypoglycemia, we interview Professor Simon Heller, Professor of Clinical Diabetes at the University of Sheffield, UK, and Director of Research and Development and Honorary Consultant Physician at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.
Professor Heller received his clinical diabetes training at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK and his research training at the University of Nottingham, UK and Washington University, St Louis, USA. His current research interests include the physiologic responses to hypoglycemia and hypoglycemia unawareness, pathophysiologic mechanisms of sudden death in type 1 diabetes and the development of interventions to encourage more effective diabetes self-anagement. He was Editor in Chief of Diabetic Medicine between 2000 and 2004. He is currently a member of the Diabetes UK Research Committee, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Scientific Review Board and Medical Research Council (MRC) College of Experts.
