Birger Thorsteinsson, MD, DMSc, has been a consultant at the Department of Cardiology, Nephrology and Endocrinology, Nordsjællands Hospital Hillerød, Denmark since 1993. He has also been a professor in diabetes, with special emphasis on hypoglycemia, at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen since 2009. In 1990, he received his doctoral thesis “Kinetic models for insulin disappearance from plasma in man” from the University of Copenhagen. As well as research in the areas of insulin pharmacokinetics and hypoglycemia in diabetes, Dr Thorsteinsson has been engaged in researching cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and quality assurance in diabetes treatment.
