A 40-year-old lady who had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when aged 3, was able to self-inject insulin under supervision by the age of 6. Her childhood years of diabetes were complicated by recurrent severe hypoglycemia, once leading to loss of consciousness in a swimming pool. In late adolescence she developed an eating disorder and experienced marked variability in her glycemic control.
