A 15-year-old Caucasian male who developed type 1 diabetes at 16 months of age had been treated for 13 years with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) using an insulin pump. Three hypoglycemia-induced seizures were treated at home with glucagon injections, two having occurred within the previous 2 weeks. The patient also had a history of many episodes of hyperglycemia and ketonuria, most often from failed pump infusion sites.
