A 12-year-old female with type 1 diabetes from the age of 2 years, had sub-optimal glycemic control, and her glycated hemoglobin had never been below 10.3% (89 mmol/mol). Although the patient performed her own glucose self-monitoring, her mother – a single parent – injected the insulin doses and managed the patient’s diabetes.
