Hormonal counter-regulatory response to biochemical hypoglycemia in pregnant women with type 2 diabetes
Hypoglycemia is a common occurrence in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. While it is accepted that intensive insulin therapy adds to the risk for hypoglycemia in this patient group, impaired hormonal counter-regulatory responses may also contribute. Ringholm et al recently explored hormonal counter-regulation to biochemical hypoglycemia (serum glucose ≤3.9 mmol/l) during pregnancy in type 1 diabetes.
